You sit and veg... anything you could possibly "need" a TV for, the internet is so much better. Its all here, news, people, entertainment, education, whatever, AND its interactive.

Fri, June 29, 2007 - 8:52 AMI do sometimes worry that my time spent using the Internet/computer is just as wasteful as watching a bunch of TV shows. But then I try to remind myself that when I'm using a computer I am at least interacting with it (like now for instance!) and subsequently keeping my brain active. I just sometimes wish I didn't have to sit so close to the screen! :) -

Tv "Viewing" and Interacting with a Computer are WORLD'S Apart!
Television viewing is a "brainwashing" of commercialism and utter GARBAGE "Programming". A GOOD high-end Computer like mine here, opens up a WORLD of interactivety,that is very rewarding.
A Television set has a Single Function...to ram HOME commercial advertising until YOU think your not a "Person" until you HAVE that Item,It's "Secondarly Function" is to BORE you to DEATH with Lifeless Mundane "Programming".
A good Computer can tell you everything from Paleontology to Eienstien's Discoveries,to delicious recipes and what to cook tonight, and what the weather will be tomorrow with NO WAITING(for that "Channel" to be on) And the "News" on websites is far more reliable and honest than on such Channels as "Faux News" and ABC NBC and CBS,who we know are 100% censored by our wunnerful government so that you only see and hear what THEY want you to!
And unless your rich enuff to afford a 32 inch or larger LCD Flat Panel TV Set,even your CRT Television screen SUCKS compaired to your LCD high Definition Computer Screen.
Television....WHATS there to LIKE??....ZIP....Zilch....ZERO. -

Fri, July 6, 2007 - 5:39 AMWhenever I'm in a bar or even a doctor's waiting room that has a TV on, I'm reminded of exactly what is awful about it. It dumbs down all the discourse in American life....the "news" is hardly informative, or more to the point it provides selective, pseudo-information. The shows appeal to everybody's basest insticts: getting everybody all paranoid about crime, mean-spirited shows where people get gonged and dinged and voted off islands and such..."reality" shows and Oprah pablum.

Mon, March 10, 2008 - 11:15 AMWhy not go outside and enjoy sunshine, gardening and people instead of television. On our bus network (Los Angeles) about a year ago they installed tvs on every bus! Uggghhh! All of that quiet reading time or meditating / thinking time siphoned off by unwanted television. At least many of the bus drivers in their disgust for it also have turned it off or turned it down to inaudible so we can have our commutes to ourselves and our bus friends again.
Living in Southern California - I would much rather be outside almost all the time compared to watching television. Yesterday me and a couple of my friends drove to Joshua Tree and rock climbed all day. It was great. Meet new friends, have healthy food you pack yourself, enjoy a great activity outdoors, and watch the entire sunset again! I forgot how amazing sunsets and sunrises can be. Go get some sunshine folks!
